Overgaauw Chenin Blanc 2008
The dream of making a Chenin Blanc that reflects its unique Overgaauw origins and true varietal identity has been realized in this wine. The wine's racy freshness, tropical fruit aromas and whiffs of guava, follow through onto a mouth filling palate with hints of the minerality, that is so distinctive of Overgaauw's terroir. A crisp finish is complimented by a lingering fruity aftertaste.

The citrus and pineapple continue on the aftertaste with a pleasant zing on the finish. The subtle oaking albeit 100% wood fermented in French barriques plus a lengthy lees contact, places the fruit centre stage. The resulting buttered melba-toast effect adds a silky texture to this delicious crispy drinkable wine that has the potential to age for another 2-5 years.

This wine is refreshing and medium-bodied with aromas of pear, apricot, white fleshed peach and small traces of floral and spice notes. Overgaauw Tria Corda 2006
A full bodied Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). The Tria Corda blend usually includes Cabernet Franc (hence the Tria) but the 2006 Cabernet Franc’s quality did not live up to the Tria Corda quality standards, and was hence omitted. This wine is seductively perfumed with cassis, raspberry, cedar and a touch of spice and minerals the wine follows through with a silky, balanced palate with fine ripe tannins and a long concentrated finish. The 18 months in small French oak barrels which ensures at least 10 years ageing potential is complemented by the wine’s brilliant fruit.

The serious oaking and 10 year ageing potential is masked by the wine’s svelte charm.

The Overgaauw Merlot is still made in its original ’Cape European’ style. David selects certain pockets within the vineyard showing great fruit concentration reflecting the uniqueness of Overgaauw’s Merlot. It is a well structured, medium bodied wine with a rich combination of sumptuous black cherry fruit, hints of celeriac, dark mocha chocolate and elegant spicy oak notes from the 18 months in French oak barrels. The fine but firm tannins are complimented by a mouth filling fruity and lingering complexity. While this Merlot can be enjoyed now it invites another 7 years in the bottle when it should reveal a pleasant surprise to those with patience.  Decant this wine 2 hours prior for optimum enjoyment.

The wine reflects optimum vineyard and cellar care. While the juicy lively medium bodied palate is designed for drinking pleasure, this elegant wine has a misleading accessibility and has the backbone to age for up to 5 years.

This product pays tribute to the exceptional 2003 vintage on the estate. As the 2002 vintage did not meet Overgaauw's standards, no Cabernet Sauvignon was released that year.
This Cabernet Sauvignon shows complexity with deep layers of black plums, cassis and savoury-smoky spice, even hints of minerality. Well-crafted and given the significant oak credentials to age for another 7 to 15 years, its fine-grained, ripe tannins nevertheless make it accessible now. A handsome, muscular wine.

A serious wine, despite its immediate juicy raspberry, chocolate and wood-spice appeal. The meaty undertones and firm backbone attest to the careful construction and promise of 5 or more years ageing. Sleek, smooth-textured and showcasing an array of red fruits, it is already drinking beautifully.

Note about past vintages
All the initial vines have been replaced with virus-free material. The clones now used give more pronounced varietal flavours than in past years.

A combination of first and second-fill oak was used until 1994, followed by 100% new wood until 2004. Since then we have returned to the combination of new and second fill, to allow the wine to express its unique terroir origins.

The 2000 vintage was exceptional for Cabernet Sauvignon on Overgaauw, producing healthy grapes with an abundance of fruit. This is a full-bodied wine with blackberry/mulberry aromas and hints of vanilla. The maturation in oak barrels adds to the complexity and future development of this wine. Probably one of our best Cabernet Sauvignons in the last decade. Big surrounding on the middle palate and soft grape tannins.

A fruity dry red wine. Colour brilliant red. Medium bodied with cherry and raspberry flavours. Cab Franc character shows stronger and as the wine matures the Pinotage flavours will become more dominant. A lively fruit-driven palate with soft tannins. A wine for many occasions!

Overgaauw Touriga Nacional Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

This wine is a blend of 67% Touriga Nacional and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a wine that is beautifully poised with a dark intense colour, succulent, lengthy mulberry fruit, dark chocolate, a twist of violets, soft tannins and fine white pepper finish on the palate.

Overgaauw Chardonnay 2002
Crisp green-gold colour. Well balanced dry white wine with good integration of tighter grain oak to compliment the typical Chardonnay peach-lemon bouquet with a butterscotch after taste. The wine went partially through malolatic fermentation (80%) and spent a few months on its lees for further integration. The barrels were rolled every 2nd week to stir the lees, enriching the wine.

Overgaauw Chardonnay 1998
Well balanced dry white wine with good intergration of tighter grain oak to compliment this Chardonnay. This makes the wine a very refined product. It has a pronounced and typical Chardonnay peach-lemon bouquet with promising fruity delectability. The wine went partially through malolactic fermentation and spend a few months on its lease for further intergration. The lease was stired up to enrich the wine. A bold wine with a crisp green-gold colour.

Overgaauw Merlot was the first wine of this variety bottled in South Africa. A ruby tinted, soft structured wood matured red wine with strawberry/raspberry aromas. A touch of Cabernet Sauvignon was blended to the Merlot to give a warmer palate. With bottle maturation its velvety character will improve even further.
